How to clean your engagement ring at home.

June 13, 2020

Keeping those sparks flying!

You have your dream ring, you said “YES!”, everyone asks to see your stunning piece, but it’s just not quite as sparkly as it seemed when he first proposed… sound familiar?

Just so you know, we will always clean your Marisa Perry rings for you, any time, any day of the week, so feel free to pop in whenever! However, we know that life gets busy and you may be traveling, or, y’know, in lockdown during a Global Pandemic! You never know! So, you need a to-go solution!

The good news is that you can clean it yourself, easily, quickly and safely, in no time at all, and we are going to teach you how!

When your stone has dulled or is looking a little “milky”, all it needs is a deep clean. Everyday products like shampoo and conditioner, hand cream, foundation, perspiration, and natural skin oils gradually build up under and around the stone, that attracts more dirt, and all of that blocks the amount of light that gets into your diamond – dulling its sparkle!

But this is a really quick fix!

All you need is a soft-bristle toothbrush, and a soapy solution, like dish or hand soap, or ideally, our insanely good Brite Me in-home cleaning kit!

1, Fill a bowl or large mug with warm water.

2, Submerge your ring in the water and give it an initial scrub with the toothbrush – not a hard scrub, but gently work the bristles into the gaps under the stone in circular motions. This will loosen up any of the dirt and grease.

3, Putting a squeeze of soap, or a pump of our foaming solution onto the toothbrush, go back in and brush underneath and around the stone, really working into all the nooks and gaps of the settings detailing. Don’t worry, you won’t hurt your diamond! It’s been in molten mantle, taken a billion years of extreme pressure, then survived a volcanic eruption! Do be conscientious of the prongs, however. While they will be well set and meticulously finished flush to the stone, metal is malleable, so soft but firm circular brushing is perfect.

4, Continue this action as you resubmerge the stone under the water and clear off the bubbles. Take a quick study of the stone, are there any areas still congested? If so, go in again with the soapy toothbrush.

5, Now run your ring under warm water and pat it dry with a paper towel. Et voila!

If you want to level up your cleaning game and take it to that “just left the store” finish, we have our own (incredible!!) in-house product that we have packaged up in little to-go cleaning kits. The kit includes a soft cleaning brush with tapered bristles and our own brand cleaning solution – an utterly amazing product that cuts through oils and build-ups, and coats the stone in an invisible protective barrier that makes it extra sparkly – we are crazy about it!
